Off the Field — Challengers Host Their First-Ever Team BBQ

Cricket is what brings us together on the field — but this weekend Challengers Cricket Club came together off it for the very first time. We fired up the grills for the club's first-ever team BBQ and get-together: a relaxed summer afternoon of food, laughs, and conversation that had nothing to do with run rates or field settings — and everything to do with the people who make this club what it is.

A First for the Club

Since coming together for the 2026 season, most of our time as a group has been spent at practice, at the crease, or travelling to matches. This was different. No toss, no scorecard, no team sheet — just teammates and their families sharing a meal and getting to know each other as people first and cricketers second. For a club built on being inclusive and community-first, a get-together like this is exactly the kind of moment that turns a squad into a family.

None of this happens without someone stepping up to organise it. A huge thank you to Sazzad “Roman” Mahmud for arranging this event — from the plan to the food to getting everyone in the same place at the same time. Roman took it on himself to make sure the club's first social was one to remember, and it absolutely was. This one's on the board because of him.

More to Come

This is the first of what we hope will be many Challengers get-togethers. Cricket will always be the reason we found each other — but afternoons like this are the reason we stay. Thank you to everyone who came out, brought family, and made the club's first social a success.
